the oc

why is it that the minute there is news of a 'girl-on-girl' moment on "the oc", all my friends want to watch the show? are males really that simple that as soon as you provide a hint of attraction between women, we abandon all other pursuits and sit through your show?

yes. yes we are. sorry, it's just the way we are wired.

the mystery of buble

michael buble is one of those guys i saw on vh1 clip shows for a long time, and wondered, "who the hell is that guy, and what does he do? he seemed witty enough to be a writer, but not too self-absorbed to be a comedian (as much as i love stand-up comics, they are admittedly selfish). it turns out he's a singer. from what i've been able to hear, he does stunning covers of songs like 'mack the knife', 'fever', and 'what a wonderful world'. of course, i'm not nearly snobbish enough to pretend that he's obscure or anything, because he's already been on vh1, but if you're more open-minded than the average williamsburg resident, you might enjoy him.

back in the US of A

after a few weeks in india has spoiled me. not only was the weather incredible, but i didn't have to do any work. i just lounged about, and read ian fleming, bill bryson (3), pj o'rourke, a biography of monty python, stephen fry, and pg wodehouse (2). i don't get as much time to read for leisure as i would like, so just sitting in the 80 degree weather and voraciously consuming tomes is my idea of a great break. now that i'm back, reading again, but unfortunately not entirely for pleasure. it could be worse. i could have no arms, a la the black night.

you've got to take your victories wherever they are.
